Flea needs panadol - Played two quarters of footy for fun.Feel like I have been run over and backed up on by a semi trailer and am sure that I am 3 inches shorter thanks to a front on bump to the head.Anybody beat that?
  • (IP) Pie replied: I think Rod Dyer will have a head ache after a hard elbow to the scone. Admittedly there was no malice and it was in the course of play but he saw tweedy birds for a bit.
  • (IP) Flea replied: That beats me .I saw that from the bench.
  • (IP) Ouch replied: Trying to take a dump is more like a controlled fall!!!
  • (IP) Flea replied: That beats me too!

Sly of the Cowboy World - Unfortunately rumour comes to me that there will be no Masters Game this week due to lack of numbers. I understand that Pie would like all available members to get to Marcelin for the Supers game, with your gear. Hopefully the Cowboys can get enough for that game with a few extras for water, trainers etc.
  • (IP) Easy Money replied: The cowboys were ready with full team on hand.My understanding is that the Cowboy Masters will now be playing with themselves this weekend.
  • (IP) Sharkbait replied: Thats better than playing with each other - which is a vicious rumour I have heard about you brokeback boys!!
  • (IP) Ming replied: Brunswick were ready and waiting, tried many a way to get some Cowboys to show, balancing the numbers of course, and innovative measures such as recruiting Eastern Masters (who have a bye) and Footscray Masters (who often have too many) but it seems the slopes beckon with a snow-bunny-favorable forecast.
Our older blokes will have a ball in the over-47s and some 40s will be filling in for SthYarra Masters at South Morang (!!)
  • (IP) Merciless replied: And perfect weather for us Mudlarks at last. Squat, Duck-legged barge-through that's us, and all those big Cowboys to bounce off. I love the smell of bruises in the morning.
  • (IP) Cowboy Stalwart replied: Never thought i would see the day when opposition clubs hang more #@*%! on us than what we usually do upon our selves. Times they are a changin. ( Bob Dylan circ 1950's ) any one know his number he gotta be 35

Caroline Sheahan - The Martello Cup was up for grabs when the Cowboys hosted their nearest neighbours, Mordialloc in the penultimate home game for the year. The Cowboys had not held the Cup since winning it in the Division 2 grand final in 2007, so hopes were high for it’s return to the Roy Dore reserve.

Wet and windy conditions met both teams when they ran out onto the ground, the Cowboys numbers were depleted, so their numbers were added to by a number of players who “doubled up” from the Masters.

Despite kicking with the wind the Cowboys did not get a major on the board in the first quarter despite many positive moves forward. Heata, Fos and Ads were playing well through the middle and Hammer, Postie and Pie were proving resilient in defence.

In the second quarter the Cowboys found their kicking boots and matched their opponents goal for goal to be well in the game at halftime. Flea kicked the first goal for the Cowboys with a great running goal from deep in the pocket and Mordi Ant got the team second after a great pinpoint pass from Heata in the middle. Trash got the third for the quarter in similar fashion when, Shawry got the ball out of the centre.

The third quarter looked to be going the same way as the first until Flea took a typical bone crunching mark and kicked his second for the day. The Cowboys were still playing well, but missed a few vital chances to make Mordialloc pay for it with results on the scoreboard. Oldy, perhaps inspired by his resurgent Tigers, was playing well as were Penna, Barney and Pugs, who was enjoying a backline role.

The rain continued in the last quarter and unfortunately the Cowboys did not add to their goal tally for the day, but they can take heart in the fact that they didn’t let themselves be over run completely.

With only two games to go the Cowboys are growing more and more desperate for a win which I am sure is not too far away. Away games often see the Cowboys struggle to get two teams on the ground so can all players make an extra special effort to be available for the next game.

Finally, special thanks to the boys who played both games, Penna, DJ, Mordi Ant, Nev and Saddles.
  • (IP) Flea replied: Thanks Caro
  • (IP) Aussie K replied: that's gratitude, no-one mentioned goal of the year kicker Danger in a special thanks for playing two games !!!!

    Pie - Theres fines coming!!!
Sunday Night, NOT LATE, I am about to leave and it is bought to my attention by the Ex Mordialloc Vice President that a memeber count was in order at the Carrum rooms.
There was about seven Cowboys including supporters (Two who I have never met) and about twenty Mordialloc guys.
    Poor Effort Boys!
I had to hang around so as not let the side down but it got to near 8.30pm (Way past my bed time and curfew) and I did the phantom fade.
  • (IP) Wolfy replied: I would of hung around longer if it was a full moon
  • (IP) Postie replied: I would of hung around longer but i had toget home to cook tdinner for my garden gnomes
  • (IP) Heata replied: I wouldve hung around longer but i could here Tommy calling me
  • (IP) Oldy replied: I woudve hung around longer but i had to go fix a flat tyre
  • (IP) Fos replied: I wouldve hung around longer but had to make a dash for it when it stopped raining so i didnt mess up my hair
  • (IP) PMG replied: my gnomes live inside!
  • (IP) Flea replied: Hey pres I had to go watch my Jess play basketball for the first time ever.A parental moment that I was never going to miss. She starred,we giggled.
  • (IP) Big game replied: I do think some of our boys are suffering battered cowboy syndrome and the couch or bath looked good.
  • (IP) Caro replied: I had to prepare my match report
  • (IP) Pie replied: What I am hearing, Boo Hoo Hoo!!
What I want to hear is Ching Ching into the Fine Jar.
  • (IP) I remember. replied: You may have forgotten Pres, but there were heaps of us last time, none looking after your welfare of course but here none the less.
  • (IP) Pie replied: No sorry I dont recall that

Caroline Sheahan - Two past premiership players, Chaps and Soley, returned to the Cowboys along with two Carrum players from days gone by, Doggie and Gooba, to help the Cowboys get their first win for the year against Plenty Valley who were previously known as Greensborough.

It looked like everything was going to plan, when Soley marked and kicked truly early in the first quarter, showing that he had not lost touch despite spending the last four years on the sidelines. The opposition were a big, well drilled team that hit the Cowboys hard, but fairly, at every contest. This took its toll on the Cowboys who were playing well and they did well to not let the Valley team get away to a big lead in the first quarter.

The Etihad like surface saw many Cowboys lose their footing at critical moments during the game, but even though they did not kick a major for the quarter they kept their opponents in check on the scoreboard. The backline was holding up well, with Ange leading the way, well supported by Postie and Pie. Wolfy came on, but was quickly involved in a heavy clash that now sees him with a couple of cracked ribs and a few weeks on the sidelines.

The third quarter was another goalless term for the Cowboys although the boys were playing well they just couldn’t get the results on the ball. Oldy was playing well and Chaps started to find a bit of his past form. Despite only having one good leg, or groin, or whatever it is, Fos seemed to be able to find the ball ease and drive it forward.

In the last quarter Mossy was moved to the forward line and kicked the Cowboys second for the day and soon after Webby, also playing forward kicked the second for the quarter. At the end of the game Plenty Valley had well and truly beaten the Cowboys but the margin was not an indication of how well the Cowboys had played.

It should also be noted that the game was played in true Superules spirit.

The Martello Cup is up for grabs this week when the Cowboys host their nearest neighbours, Mordialloc. Before I close this report, I should point out that Errol was once again sent off which means he must repeat the donation he had to make after the Footscray game.

Finally, I do not know if I should take offence or not about a certain President’s comments about doing “anything” with me and the rumours that our mutual disappearance was linked in any way.
  • (IP) Mere thought replied: Hey Caro dont take offence just be thankful that it didnt happen!!

Sly of the Cowboy World - Rumour comes to me that Pie s appearances around the club have been zero since the New Zealand boys gave him a drinking lesson after the Plenty Valley game. Look at the evidence
1: Hasnt trained, even under the new lights that he worked so hard to get.
    2: Wasn't at the $1000 Draw
Question is has anyone seen him at all around Carrum.
Another rumour is that he is worried someone may have "slipped him a mickey" due to his lack of memory of all events following the presentations, and has been keeping a low profile in case the league drug testers arrive at the club.
    can anyone confirm the above?
  • (IP) Whisperer replied: Cannot confirm or deny.Maybe in Canberra advising the new PM about erection dates.Opps Election Dates. Watch for the condition of Mrs Pres after Sat night Kareoke,my tip is that she is too classy to pay him back!
  • (IP) The real Blazing Saddles replied: maybe he's been with Caro Sheehan as she/he hasn't been seen or heard from since !!!!!
  • (IP) Pie replied: OK, I might have lost a small section of my life two Sundays ago but theres no way Id do anything with Caro!
Anyhow I dont know what your talking about because I dont recall that, your honour.
  • (IP) Fosman replied: Maybe the, (he who has now a low profile) president may have inadvertedly become an odds on favourite to win a three stooges award that he so much loves giving out at the Austin Parker night.
He must of picked up the three votes on last years trip away when the pugilist within thought he would sort out some Launceston adolescents and the word is out that he was showing the kiwis some defensive moves sunday night.
  • (IP) Flea replied: Fos, your nomination for the three stooges is duly noted and carries my vote!
  • (IP) Pie replied: Dont think you can distract the fact that your in line for another Three Stooges award Fos!
