Apparently a gnome was stolen from a property in Frankston and has been seen photographed in front yards all over Sweden usually curled up asleep and looking a little disheveled. Petals - Juggs, please pass this onto you club president. The over 47’s competition is gradually taking shape and more teams are expected for 2009 and beyond. Frankston Sharkies are seriously considering fielding an over 47’s team in 2009. The feedback in the recent weeks from some surrounding clubs is that a competitive team can be established. We would like to place an invitation to you and any players in your club that are eligible to join. We have considered the name Casey Districts (not finalised), as the predominant teams are in this district, even if your club is not the invitation to your club still applies. We ask that in the first instance for your feedback and within the next couple of weeks you provide me with a list of player’s names, dates of birth and contact numbers so we can arrange a BBQ get together in the pre-season to formally establish this team. If you would like further details please contact me on 0402 218 047 or email the list of players on compassist@bigpond.com Thank you. Mark Petalas.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Look To 2009

It may have felt like a long season but in actual fact this is the shortest season the Cowboys have played since they started three years ago. In their first two years, the season extended beyond the home and away rounds to finals and grand final success, not so in 2008. For the final time this year the Cowboys met an opposition with bigger and fitter bodies who also had a well drilled game plan. Many people noticed the height mis-match when Paddy lined up on a guy who was at least 40cm taller than he was.

The backline was under pressure early and fought valiantly to curb the many scoring opportunities the opposition brought against them. As usual it was Postie, Rowdy, Ange and the Cougar that repelled the opponents time and time again. Eddy added a bit of venom to the backline with his hard attack on the ball and occasionally the visitors. Forward thrusts from the centre were made several times but were thwarted by much larger rivals. The home teams’ only goal for the quarter came after Flea got on the end of a Heater pass and took a courageous mark in the goal under intense pressure.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Look to 2009 (part 2)

The second quarter was similar to the first, although Oldy and “stand-in” ruckman, Fab, were initiating the ball out of the centre, aided by Heater, Mearnsy and Shawy. Eddy claimed another victim (fairly) and the Beaconsfield forwards were starting to get a bit watchful when heading towards a loose ball. Coach Closey got the only major for the quarter after a great long pass from Postie who had drifted up to the centre square from the backline.

After the long break the Cowboys penetrated the forward line many times for little reward. The size and discipline of the opposition was too much for the undersized Cowboy forwards. Heater showed how it was done by finding some space and kicking truly.

In the last quarter for the year the Cowboys played some great football before Beaconsfield terminated the game with a number of goals. The forward line finally got their game into gear, as the Cowboys added three for the quarter. Flea got his second with a great kick from the boundary line, Steamer marked in the square and amazed everybody when he kicked truly (Fab swore Steamer had his eyes shut) and Penna ran onto a loose ball in the square and kicked the final Cowboy goal for the year.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Look to 2009 (part 3)

The feeling around the club is excellent despite a year where success has not come as easily as it has come in the last couple of years so lets build on that over the off season and come back in the new year with hopefully some new faces (and taller players). Don’t forget the Austin/Parker night on September 19 when another name will be added to the record books of the Cowboys. It is sure to be a good night, as it has been for the last couple of years.

I have enjoyed giving everybody a summary of the games the Cowboys have played over the year (especially Pie and his Yeehah thing) and will return again next year if all goes well. I have tried to keep my identity secret over the year and on more than one occasion have denied my true identity. If you want to have a guess at who I am (don’t think of the obvious, my true identity will surprise many) feel free to have a crack. I might even reveal myself, in the nicest possible way, at the presentation night, if I am there, or I may continue the mystery in 2009. Then again I heard my good friend Mike Wilson is looking for a gig.

    Cheers all,
    Caro

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Fight On (part 1)

Apologies to all readers about the tardiness of this report, I was hoping for a last minute invite to the Olympics and was too busy packing in anticipation to get fingers to keyboards. What is this Yeehah? Should I get check copy write laws and get my solicitors on the phone? Does anyone know a “cop” I could talk to to press charges? For some reason I feel if you go for Mike Wilson you will pretty much get what you get now.

As is the usual case the Cowboys were once again the smaller team on the field but clever use of the ball in the first quarter saw the Cowboys start like a house on fire with early goals to Trash and Flea after good use of the ball further up the ground. The opposition then got their act together and scored a few goals before Mossy kicked the Cowboys third leaving the Cowboys only 3 points behind at quarter time.

In the second quarter the Cowboys were not disgraced kicking three goals against a building wind. In his return to the Cowboys, after a few weeks injured on the sidelines, Oldy kicked one after a 25 metre penalty, Steamboat defied all the critics and goaled from 25 out and Flea got his second for the match. The backline, through Postie, Hilly, Cougar and Ange repelled the ball many times in the quarter and ran the ball out of defence well, however when turnovers came Footscray kicked long with the wind, found targets and converted well and went into the long break three goals up.
  • Pie replied: Sorry caro you missed the dealine and this won't be in the last Yeehah. The full colour copy collectors edition of the Yeehah will be at the club on Wednesday Night and at the game on Sunday.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Fight On (part 2)

In the third quarter the Cowboys played some of their best football for the year and kept the opposition goalless for the quarter. Heater and Penna were linking the backs to the forwards and goals came to the Cowboys, with Mossy getting his second and Flea his third. This left the Cowboys only a couple of goals down with a quarter to go.

In the last quarter the Cowboys did all they could to win the game but were once again outsized across the ground. Mossy got his third for the game, but the highlight of the quarter was Heater knocking Mearnsy out (was Mearnsy getting to close in the Austin/Parker medal race, is Chapps to far behind to win with one game to go?) The ambulance took to the field to recover Mearnsy’s body but the old fella shook himself off and then proceeded to escort the ambulance off the ground, Moomba parade style.

The Cowboys only have one game to go and it is a home game against Beaconsfield this Sunday. The Cowboys have never played their last game of the season at home, as their “last games” have been Grand Finals played on the other side of the city, so get their on Sunday as it will be your last chance to see the Cowboys in 2008.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Still Competitive (Part 1)

Fresh from their win last week the Cowboys headed to Bentleigh to take on the Southern Saints, hopes were high for back to back wins. A few players withdrew before the game started and a couple of players were a little worse for wear after celebrations during the previous night, one rowdy Cowboy in particular who had celebrated his 40th.

The Saints were probably the tallest team that the Cowboys had played in the last three years, so in the windy conditions it would be essential that the Cowboys played their fast, mobile game as they would struggle if the ball was in the air too much. A forward line containing Flea, Trash, Shawy, Closey and Paddy highlighted the Cowboys lack of height. Lynchy was the only forward over six foot, he is even taller when he holds the ball in the air. The first quarter was a dour affair with only one team managing to score a goal, unfortunately it wasn’t the Cowboys even though they had the wind

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Still Competitive (part 2)

The quarter showed good signs as the Cowboys moved the ball well but just failed to get a major on the board. Eddie was given a yellow card after a very energetic tackle, that wasn’t really as bad as it looked, it felt like the umpire just wanted to stamp his authority on the game. Fos did his calf again, I don’t know if it was his good one, his bad one, or the one that was bad but came good. So at quarter time the Cowboys were a couple of players and a goal down.

The Cowboys dominated the first half of the second quarter playing good possession football. They gained control and then just chipped the ball around the ground with excellent skills, working the ball forward until they were close enough to score. Their first goal came about as a result of this strategy with Penna taking a mark within range and successfully converting. Late in the quarter the Saints managed to use the ball and the wind effectively and good kicking saw them go into half time with a five goal advantage.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Still Competitive (part 3)

After a slow start to the third quarter the Cowboys got their game in gear and played one of their best quarters of football. The backline held strong with Postie, Ange, Rowdy and Couger not only defending well but sending the ball forward many times. In the middle Penna, Chapps and the freshly peroxided Heater then moved the ball with precision to the forwards. Trash got one off the ground, Chapps employed Steve Johnson type skills (or does Johnson use Chapps type skills) to open the angle for a major and Closely kicked three for the quarter, one from a snap, the other two after pinpoint passes from further up the ground. The Cowboys won the quarter and were less than three goals down going into the last quarter.

The Cowboys again dominated the first part of the quarter but failed to convert opportunities. The oppositions height proved a bit too much in the end and although the Cowboys didn’t score in the last quarter, they were not disgraced in any way. The commitment shown by the players right through till the end of the game was outstanding and although it was another loss the Cowboys should be proud of their efforts.

The Cowboys have back to back away games, their next game is against Footscray at the Williamstown oval so get there to show your support for the boys and forget the $1,000 draw this Saturday at the Club.
  • Pie replied: Sorry to correct you Caro but the next game won't be at Williamstown oval as there is a junior comp on there. As yet we don't know where we are playing but we have offered our oval to Footscray if they are in a bind. Watch this space for ground location.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Win (part 1)

I don’t know if it was the experience of the last four games, the internal desire of all Cowboys to win, the prospect of a winless season and relegation, an additional $5,000 in the bank or the inspiration of Billy Brownless and BT, but whatever it was the Cowboys got their act together this week and recorded their first win for the season.

Kicking into a strong wind in the first quarter, the Cowboys were a bit scratchy early but played great defensive football in the second half of the quarter to go into quarter time only one goal down. The backline held firm thanks to the return of Fos and Hilly, alongside the backline stalwarts of Postie, Rowdy and “new boy” Ange. Chaps played the loose man down back and the Cougar provided the run out of defence that was needed into the wind. Notty provided the only major for the quarter after a great run through the half forward line.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Win (part 2)

The Cowboys started slowly in the second quarter with the wind, but eventually got their game into gear and put on five goals for the quarter, dominating the play with good possession football and smart use of the ball. The backline again provided the springboard to attack, with Penna, Mearnsy and Heatta providing the link to the forwards. Trash got two for the quarter, Mossy snapped one, Shawy got another and another “new boy”, Andy, kicked one from the pocket with one of the most ordinary, but effective, tumble punts seen for many years.

The third quarter was back into the wind, which had seemed to strengthen over the halftime break, but the Cowboys held firm. Mossy got his second after a pack splitting mark and the backline once again regrouped to repel many attacks from the opposition. The Cowboys again kept possession with good skills often switching play to take the ball forward.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Win (part 3)

The Cowboys went into the last quarter with a five point lead and the wind behind them, although the wind had dropped a bit so the Cowboys knew that they would not be able to rely on the wind to win the game. Marcellin got the first goal of the quarter and took the lead and many sceptics thought the Cowboys were going to repeat the efforts of the previous week and let the game slip from their grasp. However, the Cowboys got their heads into the game and didn’t let the opposition score another major and put on three of their own. Notty got his second, Mossy his third, after a typically strong mark and Penna got on the end of a series of passes to kick the final goal of the game. The series of passes starting with Lynchy who marked well and proceeded to show the crowd that he had the ball with his impersonation of the Statue of Liberty.

So with success now under their belt the Cowboys head to Bentleigh for the next game against the Southern Saints in two weeks time. Dare I say it, but at this point of the season the Cowboys are still mathematical possibilities to make the finals. A final point to Pie, surely you know my TV commitments to “On The Couch” and “Footy Confidential” makes it hard for me to get these reports completed until Tuesday.
  • Pie replied: Get fair dinkum Caro, the Cowboys is where the big bucks and the public interest is.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Come Close (part 3)

All that can be said about the last quarter, apart from Closey getting his second, is that it was disappointing for the boys to get to a winning position and then let it slip. Keep your chin up Cowboys, many AFL teams do the same thing after not tasting success for an extended period. This Sunday, (there is no rest week), the Cowboys take on Marcellin at home in game that the boys are confident that they can win. Get there to support the boys.

On other matters I heard a rumour that the Footy Show may be coming to the Cowboys on Thursday night to spin Billy’s Wheel. Look for a message from Jugs for further details and if it is true get there to support the boys and see if they can win big on the wheel. There is also a trivia night on Friday at the club to raise money for the juniors.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Come Close (part 2)

Steamboat found a new home for himself at centre half back with many strong marks, ably supported by the run of the Cougar and Eddie who welcomed many opposition players with bone jarring tackles. Late in the quarter Flea pounced on a loose ball and snapped truly. Mossy marked strongly (does he mark any other way) and goaled to leave the Cowboys only 9 points adrift at the big break.

The Cowboys started the third quarter with a flood of goals. Mossy marked deep in the pocket and goaled with a checkside punt. Webby finally got the goal he deserved and Closey, not wanting to be outdone by Mossy, snapped one from the opposite pocket after a strong mark on the goal line. The backline continued to repel many attacks with the Postman leading the charge, so good was Postie, that his opponent got a bit lippy, then a bit more lippy and finally lippy enough to be given a red card and told to hit the showers. For the first time in the season the Cowboys had established a lead and despite a late goal to the opposition they took a 5 point lead into the final break.

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys Come Close (part 1)

Like many of the horses in the Grand National, the Cowboys fell at the hurdle that was their first win of the year. Speaking of falls, Pie dislocated a finger during the pre-game warm up on the ground and failed to take his place on the ground. The Cowboys started slowly, their cause not helped by very wayward kicking at goal. The Cowboys were robbed of a goal when a goal umpire decided that Webby’s kick had gone over the goal post, mind you the goal umpire made this call from the mid point between the goalposts. They Cowboys kicked seven behinds before Trash got on the end of a pass from Helmut to give the side the first major of the day. Despite three more shots at goal the Cowboys were 17 points behind at quarter time.

Due to a hamstring twinge early in the first quarter Closey banished himself to the forward pocket where he shrugged the injury to chase down an opponent and get the turn over that resulted in a Cowboy goal. (Unfortunately this reporter was distracted at the time to see who kicked the goal, but I will put it down to Chaps even though he wasn’t there, I’m sure he wouldn't claim it if he wasn’t there?).

Support your mates and make the effort to get to the game.
We will be low in numbers for both masters and supers so get along there and have a kick.
  • Districts man replied: Thats great news see you cowscum next year in div 2
  • districts loser replied: Districts man havent you got over being pumped last year(LOSER )we would still whip you peanuts, get back to your own fly blown blog site ,you guys would never get to look at div 1 so to play you winners again we will have to go back to div 2, wouldnt that give you more nightmares remember finals 07 tyoe
  • telstra replied: Pie to get guys to front you have to call them , the blokes that use this blog site are already converted so its no use airing views if no body reads them , get the so called staunch Carrum guys to show some character because it is them that is letting us down by drifting off, similar to 95 so there is no use whinging get on the front foot or we will follow a familiar path
  • Pie replied: Believe it or not some of those boys do read the blog even though they don't submit comments. Every SMS that jugs sends goes to the full list including retired players. Its just that some of us are prepared to be sore and injured and some of us arent. We can't force the blokes to play, but we do let them know that we need everyone we can get. And don't compare this to 1995. Whole different attitude and reason for existance with this club.
  • closey replied: Just a comment on the discussion between telstra and Pie , there is a definite decline of the original Carrum personelle from 06 to now for what ever reason but this team is community based involving many local clubs and to strengthen our existance we have to recruit as many freshly retired blokes as we can , but it is good to see some healthy debate on where we are heading. Obviously It would be nice to see some of our original team mates around more even if it just supporting or helping out behind the scenes
  • Reality replied: To Telstra, Pie & Closey,I agree with all your comments but most so called Old Carrum People will treat you like a Speed Hump, slow down, take a look, drive over you then take off !! Dont let this community fool you they are as fickle as any other!! The true Carrum people are the ones that jump on the bus or hang over the balconey and the 1/2 dozen who throw on the jumper..

lucky - What a grand day we had last sunday at coburg . The bus broke down before we even left Carrum , we got lost on the way there and last but not least they weren't selling beer when we got there! The good news - the over the hill gang won by ten goals on a ground the size of JUG'S #@*%! and we found a bottle shop before dehydration set in .PS ask steam boat about the second goal .

Caroline Sheahan - Cowboys get four points

The Cowboys got their first "win" of the season this week thanks to the bye so there will be no report from me this week. However, sources have informed me about a number of highlights from the Masters game at Brunswick.

Webby stood tall at full forward and kicked six, Rowdy got his first goal after three years of trying with the Cowboys (it can't be that hard, even Marty has kicked goals) Steamer kicked two goals in two minutes and DJ joins the ranks of game winning coaches.

Next report after the Diamond Valley game.

whoosh - did anyone at training last night notice Penna get caught in Eds vapour trail as he went streaming down field , he didnt touch the ground untill he got the the other end
  • Phantom replied: I think it would be best that someone in a senior roll down at the Cowboys tell Big Ed that out of all the Cowboys to choose he should not mess with Big Pen. From my understanding as an outsider Penna was off balance at the time and under normal circumstances would have put the big fella on his backside.
  • Looking for heroes replied: Has anyone else felt the vibe of a new cult hero emerging at cowboy land?Yes Saddles at full forward had the Carrum faithfull gasping in awe as he lead, marked, goaled, and turned on a halfpenny bit.I say get on board the Saddle Bags express and enjoy the ride!

Ming - Hi Cowboys, Welcome to Masters and another trip to the wrong side of the Yarra.
Unfortunately due to ground works (ha!?) Brunswick are playing at the Postage Stamp. Jackson Res, Boyne St, Nth Coburg [Map 18A10] - start at 1pm
With your Supers enjoying a bye, maybe you will have a fairly full squad for us to lock horns with.
We have heaps of players, so can help out if needed.
  • Ming replied: By the way. There are Speed Cams and patrol cars in use all around the area. Take care.
  • Pie replied: Thanks Ming,
Will be picking the side tonight so I'll pass on the location and info re speed cameras etc. I am hoping we will have more than enough but we'll just have to see how many put their hand up tonight.

Caroline Sheahan (Part 2) - The Cowboys had to regroup as injuries stopped Chaps and Mearnsey from coming back on after halftime and Fos and Heater were a bit “proppy”. In the third quarter, they managed to stifle many of Essendon’s attacks, holding them to just three goals. Shawy was moved further up the ground and along with the Cougar helped propel the Cowboys into attack many times during the quarter but the Cowboys failed to score.

In the last quarter the Cowboys were only just outscored by the Bombers as they were rewarded with goals from many forward attacks. Trash and Notty got a bit of it and Helmut roved the pack in the goal square for a major and later Rowdy passed backwards (once a backman, always a backman) to Webby who kicked truly. When the final siren went, Fos had the ball 20 metres out and heeding the passionate calls from the crowd calmly kicked the Cowboys first drop kick goal for the year.

As it now stands the Cowboys have played the top three teams in the competition. They’ve held their heads high and played with courage against tough opposition. If they can keep improving the first win for the season shouldn’t be far off. They might even catch the Masters!

Caroline Sheahan - Honour in Defeat

This week the Cowboys came up against Essendon, a team that has won 4 of the last 5 premierships, and although they lost the game they should walk away with their heads held high. The Cowboys were only outscored by a couple of goals each quarter as they got their game plan together and put pressure on their opponents with great tackling and great movement of the ball down the ground.

Chaps kicked the first goal for the Cowboys with a great snap as he, Mearnsey, Bruiser and Webby provided great drive forward, despite once again being vertically challenged (even Webby!). The backline held firm with Postie, Molly and Hilly putting immense pressure on their opponents and forcing errors. Heater had gone to the forward line due to an early injury, but it didn’t stop him from chasing down an opponent and being rewarded with a free kick allowing him to slot the Cowboys second goal after the siren.

In the second quarter the Cowboys started where they left off with “new boy” Paddy providing spark on the forward line and kicking his first goal for the Cowboys. The team kept the pressure on their opponents with Penna gathering many possessions on his wing and snapping a goal from 40 metres out. Steamer, playing well in defence, put his body on the line throughout the quarter and went down hard after a savage “bump” (Penna was not involved) from the opposition.

  • Phantom replied: Sly my friend are they of the quality of lets say Penna. You know what I mean good on both sides of his body, tough and hard at it. Oh damn did I write Penna I meant Chaps.
  • I like to watch- replied: The distance between what isn’t and what is possible is closer each week but no chocolates as yet. There is a great improvement each week and the Cowboys still have that spirit between team and followers that makes them different. P.S. The addition of some forwards will help!

Caroline Sheahan (Part 3) - A few changes to the team were made at halftime but unfortunately it didn't help the Cowboys. All players tried hard but not enough targets were hit and the opposition ran too well and the difference in scores became greater. Helmut got the only goal for the quarter after another high tackle. A deathly silence fell over the ground when Marty hit the deck and went off suffering from concussion (whether it was through concern or just that Marty was quiet I don't know) it has not been confirmed if Penna was in the incident area.

In the last quarter the Cowboys showed that the could match it with Greensborough and although they increased their lead the Cowboys showed that they can play first division football The Cowboys got a couple of late goals through Trash and another great snap by Flea got him his second for the day.

So what for the Cowboys from here. Sharpen up your skills so targets are hit, be accountable for your opponent and remember that all is not lost and you will get better with each game you play against better opponents.
  • Pie replied: Thanks Caro
  • Flea replied: Thanks Caro, but the eye make up was from Helmet who demanded the ball lace up instead of lace in.However I do prefer the sound of your version.

Caroline Sheahan (part 2) - Despite the weather report predicting rain, hail and storms the conditions were perfect for the Cowboy's first home game. Spurred on by the Cowboy Master's first win, the Cowboys took to the field full of enthusiasm.

Flea produced the goal of the year after avoiding a plethora of tackles and copping one high to get the Cowboys on the board. Check out Flea's sensational eye make up as a result of the high one. Mearnsy got the sides second when he chased down and tackled a fleeing opponent who bounced the ball as Mearnsy laid the tackle. The subsequent 30 metre penalty made it easier for Mearnsy to convert and he went on to admit that the guy he caught must have been the unluckiest guy in the comp if he caught them. The second quarter proved to be goalless for the Cowboys despite a number of forward thrusts. The backline held together well thanks to Postie, Cougar, Molly and Marty. Despite a spare man floating in the backline the Cowboys could not stop the opposition from scoring many goals and going into half time with a substantial lead. An incident in the second quarter saw a Greensborough player stretchered from the ground as one of the gnome quartet, Penna, flexed his muscle in a fair clash of bodies. It was noted that Marty was a lot quieter after, he who wears number 1, showed his darker side.

Caroline Sheahan (part 1) - Heads up Cowboys

Sunday's result should not seen as the end of the world. The Cowboys have had great success over the past two years and they always knew there would come a time when they met teams that would really test them out. In divisions 2 and 3 if mistakes were made the Cowboys were able to "get away" with them it. The skill level of their opponents wasn't at a level to make them pay. In division 1, one mistake can often mean a goal to the opposition. The teams the Cowboys have played are on a whole much younger, fitter, better disciplined, have better skills and as usual a lot taller. The Cowboys showed on Sunday that when they get their game together they can match a division 1 team, they have the skills and the players, it is just that they have to be "switched on" throughout the game and not just in patches.

So Cowboys heads up and get to training and hone those disposal skills so that mistakes don't occur and the Cowboys show that they can match it with the best in the best division.

Anonymous - I hear on the dusty grapevine that Paul Martello will be back for the Cowboys this week. I also hear that there was a hush and air of confusion as the his name was read out at centre half back. As an outsider I am quite confused as to how a player who hasn't trained much, other than on his appetite can warrant a key position in what is a strong 'home ground' side. Is he a favorite of the coach or is there something more to it? I have watched the Cowboys from the start and I'm still trying to work out why you rate him so highly. I would appreciate some feedback from a selector.
  • Phantom replied: Is this from you Closey? If so you're a very harsh man, Big Balls is not completely useless.

Caroline Sheahan - Welcome to Division 1 (Part 2)

The Cowboys tried to regroup at halftime, Fos rallied the team for a better second half committment only to find that his motivation spiel finished well before even the umpires had taken to the ground. (maybe somebody led him astray about the umps and opponents being already on the ground). Penna got used his soccer skills to put one through, but despite on going efforts the Cowboys could not put any more majors on the scoreboard and as a result were down by 9 goals at 3/4 time.

The last quarter started with the best clearance seen in the history of the Cowboys with Webby working his magic in the ruck and Chapps providing the drive forward. Unfortunately the conversion to goal didn't occur but it did show that the Cowboys can play the game and that in future weeks they will be victors rather than the defeated.

Better players on the day in no particular order (although I had better put Chapps first to avoid any whinging, because he was BOG in the Grand Final) Webby (great debut), Heater, Oldy, Bruiser, Fab, Saddlebags and Pen.

The next game is at home against Greensborough on the 18th and I urge all those that support the Cowboys to be there to cheer them on, watch them unfurl their premiership flag from last year and show that they are supported by the local community. Remember the Cowboys are trying to get two teams onto the ground each week so if you want to really get involved be at training on Wednesday night.

Caroline Sheahan - Welcome to Division 1

A baptism of fire, a reality check, call it what you want, the fact is that the Cowboys felt the full power of a Division 1 team in their opening game against Ascot Vale. On first impressions it seems that Div. 1 teams play a much faster and structured game than teams in the other divisions in which the Cowboys have tasted success. In the weeks to come the Cowboys will have to work on their delivery skills, their accountability for an opponent and game plan to be competitive in Div. 1. However, it is not all doom and gloom for the Cowboys, in fleeting glimpses they played as well as they have in past years in was just that they met a stronger more "drilled" team in their first match.

Greg Oldham struck first blood for the Cowboys in the opening minute of the game to give the Cowboys their first goal of the year. This goal resulting from a great centre clearance. Not much joy for the Cowboys for the rest of the quarter despite the efforts up field by Heater, Bruiser, Fab and Saddlebags. At quarter time the Cowboys were 4 goals down after kicking into the wind.

Penna kicked the first goal of the second quarter and it looked like the Cowboys were going to make a game of it with Trash snapping one and Fab getting one just over the line after a strong mark. However the opponents out scored the Cowboys and went into the half time break 6 goals ahead.

Pie - Last training before game day so everyone get down there Wednesday.
We only play 8 games now as Federal have gone to Div 3 so we have a bye, therefore you need to train to ensure you get one of veru few games in our season.
Come on you blokes who we only saw in the first year. This clubs survival and success needs more than twelve months, or even two years comitment. come and have a kick with the Masters at least.

einstein - Apparently our esteemed coach is having a spell from the grog to re-generate some brain cells , it is a major concern of his not being able to communicate at all ( only a brief fleeting clap )whilst in full consumption mode lets get behind him in his quest for soberness his situation is remarkably close to a Carlton spearheads current position
  • Fev replied: rumour has it Fozz took a leak on the wishing wells window during a beverage frenzy, how come he didnt get fined ?
  • schmashed replied: Because it is a toilet. Isn't it?

Pie - Positive Positive Positive. Theres your Positive feed back and for two reasons. Firstly I can cut and paste it straight into the Yeehah. Secondly you didnt mention how bad I played or how much skin I left on the ground.
    Keep up the good work

Also we need to know if your in or out for the game at Ascot Vale. I know its a bit of a drive but the selectors will look favourably on those who play, when selecting the team for the first home game and flag raising on the 18th of May.
Let Foz or Jugs know ASAP. Lets not make the Masters players have to play in two games.
